Summary

A green vesture of the Kartena Town

Vytautas Valenta

Local landscape with its elements, especially, vegetation and relief manifests richness of the area and exerts positive influence on local people and visitors. The town of Kartena lies in a picturesque natural environment not so far from such nature pearls of Lithuania as the Baltic Sea, the resort of Palanga and Kuršių Neringa (Curonian sand spit) world heritage reserve. The hilly relief in the environs of Kartena is very impressive. The Minija River running across the town makes the landscape even more worthy. The river, as the town itself, is shrouded in green vegetation. Perhaps all this conditioned the style of thinking of the people and their efforts to save, uphold and enlarge this wonderful gift of nature. Encouraged by this we have performed detailed analysis of the vegetation in the area of Kartena. In 2002 all vegetation groups have been described and evaluated in all the streets of the town.
